Scarf it your way

Why scarves make such a fun fashion staple

The scarf is a timeless and versatile accessory for a woman but unfortunately it often gets a step-motherly treatment and mostly because we don’t know how to maximise it to the fullest. Here’s a list of ways in which you can wear your scarf and love it too!

Dress up your handbag:
When you want to dress up your basic tan or black bag in a jiffy, your beloved scarf will come to the rescue. Just tie a messy bow on your handle and you are good to go. This adds colour and layers to your ensemble, upping the ante on style immediately.

Make it a hair accessory:
The regular hairband style is good for a pool party but you can try something different by actually using your scarf like a ribbon and plaiting it into your hair to get an oversized bow at the end. This boho and stylish look is sure to be a head-turner. A great style for the beach or lunch with the girls.

Wear it as a necklace:
Sometimes, just adding a bit of colour is all you need to make your outfit pop! Use your scarf to that effect and give your most boring t-shirt and jeans look a makeover. Just knot up the loose end at the back to achieve desired length and voila!

Belt it up:
A scarf belt is a great way to drive attention to your worked-out booty. Wear it over your skinnies with a tee or even with a loose shirt and  crinkled skirt combo to channel the gypsy in you.

Turn it into a jacket:
Simply throw on your scarf over your shoulders and belt it up at your waist to create your very own scarf-jacket. This looks great over a maxi dress. Pick a silk scarf for a night out or a cutesy one for the day.

Inked..

Caring for a new tattoo

Your new tattoo has caught everyone’s eye. To retain its glamour, however, pay heed to post-skin-care tips religiously or your new-found style could end up being a sore statement.

Moisturising is must

After you’ve been inked, wash your tattoo about 3-4 times a day with an antibacterial soap. For nourishment, follow it  up with a moisturiser that does not contain too much water or alcohol. Go for one with natural ingredients like peach, milk or plums for quick healing. Heavy moisturisers are one of the beauty don’ts when it comes to post tattoo care as they tend to clog the pores.

No sweat!

After getting a fresh tattoo done, it is logical that you would feel compelled to flaunt it! However, excessive sun exposure can cause sweating that helps the body to remove toxins. What's more, excessive sweating could remove parts of the tattoo itself or cause quick fading. In fact, too much sunlight could also cause your tattoo to fade. To make sure that your tattoo stays vibrant, you should always cover it with the highest SPF sun block that you can find.

Handle with care

Your tattoo may reflect your care-a-damn attitude. However, when it comes to taking care of it, make sure you treat it gently. Avoid swimming while it is fresh because your delicate skin will be more prone to infection. Also, in spite the urge, don't scratch the fresh tattoo to avoid loss of pigmentation.
Ask questions to the tattoo artist for further care. It’s that simple!

Totebags and perfection

Handbags and shoes are like a horse and a carriage; to have the one without the other is unthinkable. In fact, they can make or break an outfit, that is how essential they are to a lady’s wardrobe.
While most people know the names of different shoe types - things like slingbacks, pumps, stilettos - not everyone knows the names of all the different bag types. If you tell your female colleague that you just bought yourself a gorgeous baguette for your date on Friday, she might well just give you a blank stare.

I've rounded up six of the most popular bag styles. Each one suits a different outfit type, so if your wardrobe is missing a few of them, this can help you when you next hit the shops.
  • The Tote
An open top bag that often has soft straps or handles, this is the perfect shopping or beach bag. They also encourage green living as they eliminate the need for plastic bags when buying small items. For a day at the beach, they can easily carry a magazine, a sarong, flip flops, bottled water, energy bars, sunscreen and sometimes even a small towel.

  • The Hobo bag
This soft, slouchy semi-circular bag has one shoulder strap. A hobo bag is casual bag that helps you look stylish without really trying. They pair nicely with breezy gypsy skirts, linen pants, vests and sandals. Think of a picnic or a jazz concert in the park and your hobo bag will be your perfect handbag of choice.

  • The Clutch
A clutch is a small handheld bag that is tucked under the arm or carried by hand. No little black dress can ever look sleek, elegant, polished and complete without a clutch. No A-list celebrity ever hits the red carpet without the most gorgeous sought after clutch bags to accessorise their haute couture gowns. While day time glam calls for a clutch with minimum embellishments, opt for a bejewelled one for a dazzling night look.

  • The Satchel

Also know as a 'postman bag', a satchel is a great bag to take along to the office. If you find one in leather or patent leather, it can look very professional and smart.

  • The Baguette

This medium-size bag resembles the namesake bread loaf. It has short thin straps so that it can be worn over your shoulder and sit just under your armpit. A pretty baguette bag adds oomph to a flirty feminine top and fitted classic jeans ensemble. This is an effortless sexy date look.

  • The Kelly-style bag

This bag is a classic structured style that was originally created by Hermes for movie star princess Grace Kelly. It oozes sophistication and timeless style in its beautiful uncluttered design and looks fantastic with a suit. Like the satchel, it's a great bag for the office.
While there are loads of hangbag styles to choose from, having these particular styles in your wardrobe will help carry you from beach picnics to the boardroom without missing a beat.

"Smoke it up"

In terms of eye makeup, is there anything sexier and more sophisticated than the classic Smoky Eye Look?
There sure isn't! That's why almost every page of today's magazines has a picture of a beautiful model or a celebrity sporting (what else?) - the smoky eye look!
So, if you feel you are ready to join this fabulous team, and you too want to master the Smoky Eye technique, you came to the right place!

1. GETTING YOUR EYES READY

Begin by applying a light shade of concealer to the under eye area, and all over the top lid. Your mineral makeup foundation is a great concealer for this step and prepares your Eyes for the eye shadow that you are going to apply.
2. USING THE LINER
First, line both the top and bottom rims with an eye pencil, paying close attention to going into the lash line itself. If you have small eyes apply liner starting from the middle of the under eye to the outside of the eye. If your eyes are large feel free to line from corner to corner.
3. ADDING THE SHADOW
With a small eye shadow brush, soften the edges of the eye pencil line.Apply a dark shadow using a sponge-tip applicator, smudge brush directly over the penciled area and smudge. The shadow helps to set and soften the look
4. THE FINAL TOUCH
Next apply a lighter shadow in a neutral tone with a larger eye shadow brush, I like to use the wet/dry brush.Encircling the entire eye area, be sure to soften and graduate outward for that perfect blended look.

5. CURL YOUR LASHES
Creating a smokey eye isn't just all about eye shadow, it's the overall look. So, while you want to do a precise job of applying the right eye shadows in the right places, you also wanted to pay attention to your lashes. Curling your eyelashes will help open up your eyes and really make them stand out.
6. APPLY MASCARA
After you curl your lashes, you'll want to apply generous coats of mascara. Some people find that waterproof mascaras hold curl better so that's always an option. However, some waterproof mascara formulas can be a bit drying on the lashes so it's not the best idea to use a waterproof formula daily.
7. GOING SUPER-DRAMATIC
Want a more dramatic look add more Shadow and Mascara! If you are looking for the most dramatic effect be sure to curl those lashes and apply 2-3 coats of black mascara!
